Code Of Conduct

Code of Conduct

Welcome to the AI Safety UAE Community!

We're thrilled to have you! This community unites professionals, researchers, academics, technologists, policymakers, and curious minds in the UAE who are passionate about advancing AI safety.

Our Vision

AI Safety UAE exists to foster collaboration, dialogue, and innovation around safe and trustworthy AI. We are committed to creating an inclusive, respectful, and harassment-free environment for everyone, regardless of gender, identity, ethnicity, faith, age, ability, or background. AI Safety UAE is committed to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone. We do not tolerate harassment in any form.

Scope – Where and Who It Applies

This Code of Conduct applies to all community spaces and activities, including but not limited to:

  • Online platforms (Slack, LinkedIn, forums, social media groups)
  • In-person events (study groups, meetups, workshops, hackathons, conferences)
  • Virtual sessions (webinars, panel discussions, online meetups)

It is binding on all attendees, members, organisers, partners, and volunteers.

Our Standards: Expected Behaviour

Members are encouraged to:

  • Treat all participants with respect, courtesy, and professionalism.
  • Engage in discussions that are constructive, evidence-based, and inclusive.
  • Respect differing viewpoints, experiences, and expertise.
  • Give credit where it is due and respect intellectual contributions.
  • Follow event or platform-specific rules set by organisers or moderators.

Examples of expected behaviour:

  • Listening actively to others during discussions without interruption.
  • Offering constructive feedback ("I see your point, but what about X…") instead of dismissive remarks.
  • Helping new members feel welcome by answering their questions.

Red Flags: Unacceptable Behavior

The following will not be tolerated:

  • Harassment or discrimination in any form (verbal, physical, written, or online).
  • Intimidation, stalking, or unwelcome attention, including persistent messaging.
  • Hate speech, offensive jokes, or derogatory comments relating to gender, identity, race, religion, or other protected characteristics.
  • Disruption of talks, events, or online discussions.
  • Sharing others' personal information without consent (doxxing).
  • Promotional spam or solicitation unrelated to AI Safety UAE.

Examples of unacceptable behavior:

  • Making jokes that stereotype nationalities, religions, or genders.
  • Repeatedly sending direct messages after someone has asked you to stop.
  • Talking over speakers or deliberately derailing Q&A sessions.
  • Posting irrelevant self-promotion or advertisements in community channels.
  • Sharing someone's email or phone number publicly without their permission.
  • Sending texts or starting conversations that are unrelated to the topic of the event/discussion.
  • Asking intrusive personal questions (e.g., about someone's private life, finances, or relationships).
  • Using a company name or logo as your Slack display name or profile picture instead of your personal identity which can cause confusion about who is speaking.
  • Members are encouraged to represent themselves personally rather than organizationally.

Grey Areas – When in Doubt

Sometimes, it may not be obvious whether a behaviour is appropriate. If you are unsure, ask yourself:

  • Would I say or do this in front of a colleague, teacher, or supervisor?
  • Does this comment or message contribute meaningfully to the discussion?
  • Am I respecting the other person's boundaries and privacy?
  • Would I feel comfortable if this interaction was shared publicly?

If the answer is no or you're uncertain, it's best to reconsider before acting.

Conflicts of Interest & Transparency

Reports will be handled impartially. If a complaint involves an organizer, moderator, or member of the enforcement team, that person will be excluded from reviewing or deciding the matter. Decisions will be documented and, where appropriate, shared with the reporting party.

Enforcement

Reporting: If you experience or witness behavior that violates this Code, please report it to the organizing team at conduct@aisafety.ae. Reports will be handled with confidentiality and discretion.

Consequences: Organizers may take appropriate action, including:

  • Verbal or written warning
  • Temporary or permanent removal from community spaces and anonymized public notice
  • Referral to relevant authorities if necessary
